the baker
hi! I’m Maggie, a self-taught baker who has always loved spending time in the kitchen. one of my very first memories is mixing pancake batter at the kitchen table and pretending to be a “chef”. I spent much of my childhood testing out any and every recipe I could get my hands on, making a total mess in the kitchen, and baking for friends, birthdays, and lemonade stands. in 2008 I left NJ to attend Colorado College where I majored in history and perfected my chocolate chunk cookie recipe in a toaster oven that I kept under my dorm room desk. yes, it is the very same recipe we use at the shop today!
since graduating, I’ve lived all over the West, and have been involved in a variety of food related work; from building school gardens, to combating food waste, as well as baking and cooking in restaurants and cafes in both Telluride, CO and Seattle, WA.
I’ve been baking with sourdough since 2013, after reading tartine and becoming interested in the idea of naturally leavened baked goods. the initial attempt were not good, but I persisted and have been baking bread once (or twice, or three times….) a week ever since. it’s always been my dream to operate a bake shop, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share my baking with our mountain community. can’t wait to meet you!
